Chilean scientists have found more than 20 dead whales stranded in the Penas Bay in the south of the country. According to the WWF, the total population of endangered "Sei" whales, which are banned from hunting, is about 12,000.

German biologist Vreni Haussermann, who led the team that found the whales on the beach, said none of the whales were harmed and assumed they could have died from a seaweed explosion or a virus.
